Trad Trips

Trad climbing is an advanced style of climbing where natural protection such as metal chocks are placed in cracks and features in the rock. Due to this increased level of difficulty there is naturally less people capable of lead climbing at these areas within the club.

Trad trips require suitable leaders to go ahead. Furthermore, trad climbing is a lot slower than sport climbing. This means that the number of people who can come to second is also reduced. Due to the nature of a trad trip typically only experienced seconders can attend, but don't hesitate to ask!

Potential locations

  • Redcliffs - A 30 minute walk through a gully to a secluded sandstone cliff face with a wide variety of climbing styles.
  • Frog Buttress - Australia's preeminent crack climbing destination. Need I say more?
  • Girraween - Blank sharp sticky granite cheese grater slab
  • Mt Tibrogargen - Long, multipitch climbs with varying degrees of protection

What to Bring

No extra equipment is typically needed to second on a trad trip. Typically the only extra piece of equipment needed is a nut tool. Consult your trad leader before the trip to ensure that one will be available for you.
