This is the packing list Ria wrote 3 years ago, with some alterations made. Keep in mind this is just a guideline to give you some idea of the stuff that is needed. You may not require some of these things, and need others.
Please make sure everything is clearly labelled.
Things to take to Bluies
- Plate, cup, knife, fork, spoon, (The house has all of this but there never seems to be enough)
- Sleeping bag or equivalent, pillow
- Sunscreen, hat, beanie, sunglasses, insect repellent
- Towel (at least 1, 2 may be a good option depending on how long you are staying)
- Swimsuit
- Any necessary medications
- Sleeping mat, air-mattress (we aim to take a few extra sleeping alternatives as there isn't enough beds for everyone)
- Tents (those in convoy kaos will organise tents)
- Camera!!!!
- Drink bottles (at least 2, probably 3L worth)
- Clothes (thermals, layers are always good, some days are hot and you climb in shorts and a singlet others are cold and you climb in thermals and a beanie all day,warm and cold, underwear)
- Rain/windproof jacket
- Shoes suitable for walk-ins (can be up to an hour or so long depending on where we are going)
- Torch/headtorch
- Pocket knife
- Day pack (suitable to carry food, water and climbing stuffs)
- CD's (please name them)
- Clothes pegs
- Book(s) to read
- Book to keep a log of climbs attempted and relevant notes
- Pack of cards, frisbie,
- Road-trip snacks
- Guide book if you have one
- personal items (you should know what they are soap, deodorant, shampoo, razor, toothpaste & toothbrush etc)
- necessary rockclimbing equipment (see list still to come)
- phone charger
- group games (for night time activity)
- wet suit if you want to go canyoning (and if you have one)
- recipes for dinner
- personal first aid kit (small so it can go climbing with you, band-aids, disinfectant, tweezers, pain killers, anything alse that might come in handy whilst climbing, maybe some flu tablets etc)
Remember, we are not going to the middle of nowhere, so if you do forget anything it is not a major issue to go and buy whatever is needed
The quartermasters will need to know who needs club helmets, harnesses and belay devices, and also who would like draws and ropes.
Climbing equipment needed
Keep your eyes and ears open for a club gear night at one of our sponsers before Bluies. That will be the best time to pick up any of these items you don't have and we can't lend you.
Everyone will need:
- Harness (club equipment available for use, please let me know)
- Helmet (club equipment available for use, please let me know)
- Belay device & belay biner (club equipment available for use, please let me know)
- Chalk-bag (if you want one)
- Climbing shoes
- 2 prussiks (at least) (one short and one long)
- 2 sewn slings (at least) (60cm) (or something else that can be used as a safety)
- 2 screwgate carabiners (at least)
Leaders will need:
- Bolt plates
- Quickdraws (club equipment available for use, please let me know)
- Dynamic rope (club equipment available for use, please let me know)
Optional items:
- climbing tape (the rock in the mountains is sandstone and therefore extremely rough).
