Day Trips

Climbing at Kangaroo Point pales in comparison to what is available around Brisbane, as such trips are a core part of the QUT Cliffhangers club.

Day trips are the most common trips the club does, happening almost every weekend. Generally we leave from Kangaroo Point early in the morning and head to somewhere that's within a few hours drive, and stop climbing when we get too tired, it gets too hot, or it gets too dark.

Potential locations

Pretty much any nearby crag is visitable by the club, but some of the most popular destinations for club trips are as follows:

  • Ngungun - A short walk in with a wide variety of climbing styles and grades
  • Mosquito wall (Mt Beerwah) - Our traditional beginners trip location, lots of easy climbs and a perfect place to learn how to second a climb
  • Wayne's World (Mt Beerwah) - A crazy bushwalk in to a secluded climbing location that few visit
  • Slider Wall (Mt Tibrogargan) - Smooth grippy rock half way up the mountain, great views and some of the best climbing on Tibro
  • Tibrogargan Multipitching - Slider wall is not the only choice! There is also the option of doing multipitch climbs, essentially climbs on top of climbs taking you up the full 300m of Tibro
  • Mt Tinbeerwah - Slabby, under vertical climbing that relies on balance rather than strength
  • Redcliffs - A 30 minute walk through a gully to a secluded sandstone cliff face with a wide variety of climbing styles.
  • Frog Buttress - Australia's preeminent crack climbing destination. Need I say more?

Redcliffs, Frog and some areas of Tibrogargan are predominantly trad climbing areas. Trad trips have special requirements with regards to leaders and who is suitable to go.

Further away

Typically these locations are reserved for multi day trips, however it is possible to visit them for a single day

  • Brooyar (3Hrs Drive North) - The best sandstone cliffs in Queensland, with climbs for all experience levels. Beginners will love testing their abilities on the 40+ metre faces here.
  • Urbenville (2Hrs Drive South) - Just over the boarder into NSW, features true slab climbing on incredibly grippy rock.
