Brooyar (pronounced BREW-yah)is a small state forest 20 minutes northwest of Gympie (2.5 hours north of Brisbane).

Facilities

There is a small grassy campground with two composting toilets and fire-rings, firewood is no longer provided so you must bring your own. There is a limited supply of untreated tankwater. Glastonbury creek can provide a nice spot to splash around or sit in the creek but this varies with the water level. The nearest supplies are in gympie itself which is a 40 minute round-trip.

Climbing

Brooyar offers varied single-pitch sandstone climbing at a series of small crags. The majority of routes are sport or mixed with a few pure trad routes thrown in. There is also a rain cave offering pretty much all-weather bouldering which can be a great place to spend a drizzly afternoon.

The climbing highlights of brooyar including the fantastically overhung The Great Devoid, the fine moves of looking for the sun, the beginner favourite coco-pops and the entertaining top-outs at green lane.

Equipment

There is enough sport climbing at brooyar that most people forego taking a trad rack however some routes do require the odd piece of gear (particularly small to medium cams at green lane). Many routes still sport carrot bolts so around 15 bolt plates are a must. Some routes have very poor quality fixed hardware and are essentially no-go zones until the gear is replaced, exercise caution.
