27-5-2007 - Towering Tales of Trachyte Columns

Ominous clouds greeted the eleven Cliffhangers arriving at Tinbeerwah Saturday morning. But the clouds proved a blessing rather than a curse, holding the sun and the wind at bay until late into the afternoon.

Ria & Charlie raced up "Zircon Encrusted Tweezers" (18) whilst Ian & Mark tackled "Me and my Dog" (15), Pete and Julian warmed up on "Avatar" (19) and Lara and I went looking for bolts on "Between the Posts" (17).

With warm ups out of the way Pete, Ian, Lara and myself slithered our way up "Antiprenurialism" (18) A sublime two pitch eighteen that proved challenging even just getting off the ground (Oh how I love trying to fit a PFH bolt plate to a large bolt whilst your feet slowly slip off their holds).

Meanwhile Mark and Julian were also ascending a multipitch, "String Theory" (17). Judging by the post climb grins I would say much fun was had! Damo had also awakened and led up "The Opposability Project" (22) followed by Ria.

Finally Charlie led up "By Myself" with Damo and I floundered up "Zircon Encrusted Tweezers" (18) with the invaluable advice and encouragement of Ria.

Pete & Ian even managed to get through two pitches of "The Descent of Machines" (21 M1) before failing light and drizzle forced them down.

The weather having held out all day for us then proceeded to bucket down making the drive out of Cooroy almost as scary as a day of fun on the slippery slab of Tinbeerwah.
