14-04-2006 - Brooyar

Brooyar attracts two types of people. Caravan campers sit arround all day, reading the paper, and watching their kids ride their bikes arround in circles with shouts of "Im boored dad". These guys are in bed by 7pm because they are so tired from doing nothing all day... Then there are the climbers who scatter their dome tents, eskys and camp chairs about camp, before scooting off for a days climbing.

So many dome tents this year in camp, it was an amazing sight. We kept the caravan campers very entertained!! Dinner was great fun each night. By the last night, Damo and Timmy threw all their remaining packets and cans in a pot... wallah... Grewl!! Yumbo!! Full of carbs, protien, energy and complex minerals and vitamins!! Almost as good as camp oven lamb korma.... who am I kidding!! Camp ovens are great! Get one! Today!!! =] Stacys Smores were fantasticly amazing... Toasted marshmellows, dipped in melted chocolate, squished between biscuits!! YUM! And if that wasnt enough, Neil and Megs made a big batch of bailys and served it up for everyone in easter egg shots!! =] joy!

Everyone was climbing realy well this weekend, and stayed safe which was great! Eagles nest was hugely popular for exposure on the 40 meter routes. Green lane was the perfect afternoon spot with short routes under the shade of gum trees. Point pure was popular too with lots of varied climbing, long, short or overhung!

I'm not sure what everyone else was doing but my highlights were: >Warming up on "Herbs in the Fernery"( 18 ) an awesome little juggy roof!! >Blasting through the bouldery crux on "Herbs and Spices"(21) & keeping strong through the steep top. >Conquering my slab fear on "Chicken Wings"(16), and "Book em Danno"(13 with 16 top out whale finish). >Beating the height demons on "The Pioneer"(40m 16) and "Little Ray of Sunshine"(45m 17). >Onsighting "Prima Diva"( 18 ) and conquering "Prima Donna"(22), two awesome little climbs.

This was a fantastic weekend for me folks! Thanks for making this so much fun. Im hugely stoaked about the coming trips too, not sure where we are going, but long weekends = super fun climbing weekends! Hooray for Hollidays!

Adams Addendum

I'm with Cam, this Brooyar trip was a sight to be seen. 20 dome tents in a mini-city that expanded to fill every bit of the available space. So many camp chairs round the camp fire that it ended up looking like the rings of saturn. 35 eager climbers all with their own projects to try and stories to tell.

Highlights for me simply has to be the peanut gallery for anthony and phil on great devoid. I think it gave anthony quite the shock when ten of us turned up with chairs, drinks and a jumbo size first-aid kit (for unrelated reasons, although phil looked a bit worried).

Other than that, the other part I really liked was how much I was able to meet and chat with other non-cliffhangers climbers. It seemed like Warren actually selected his daily climbing area by following me up from the campground.
